ACT Online Study Guideline:

Since our candidates are adult learners, they can either follow ACT’s home study guidelines, or chalk out a study schedule that works out for them in alignment with the requirements of the online degree program. Irrespective of the method you choose, consider the mental processes of learning and assimilation outlined by the ACT home study pedagogy.

  • Hours per week – You are expected to spend around 10-12 hours a week, studying each subject.
  • A study area - Have you got a place where you can focus on your study, free from interruption (at least relatively) – whether an office, bedroom, local café or library?
  • The right tools – As an online learner, you’ll need a computer with a stable internet connection. If you prefer hard copies for reading then a printer is essential too. Having a study planner and diary (whether on paper or on your phone) is also a good idea.
  • Commitment - Do you have the determination and self-motivation to study independently? Can you stay organised and complete tasks?
  • Support - Having a spouse, close friend, colleague or mentor to support you through the tough phases is a great help.

Preparing for Success

Striking a study and life balance is essential for your success. Stick to your study schedule; and when you’re done, unplug your thoughts from studying and focus on the other aspects of your life.

  • Use the available resources to get assistance when necessary.
  • The instructor or discussion board are available for course-related questions.
  • The IT department is available for technical support.
  • Fellow learners are an excellent resource to look for tips

You need to remember that learning anything new is challenging. Don’t get discouraged when you run into a such a situation. Keep trying, and always feel free to ask for any assistance.

If you are unable to meet a deadline, make sure to communicate the information with your instructor as soon as possible. Do not wait for the deadline to pass to reach out to your instructor. It will be easier for them to work with you if you are sincere about your problems.

ACT Study Support Tips

  • Work on your writing skills. If you are not comfortable writing, you may want to defer taking online course/s until you gain some quality experience with college-level writing.
  • Put your critical thinking skills to use. Most online courses involve assignments that necessitates problem solving and critical thinking skills. It is not just watching video lectures and taking online exam but requires active involvement.
  • If you have any course related doubt and seek help when required. Remember, your instructor has no way of knowing if you’re having confusion or feeling frustrated understanding a lecture or a topic, unless you tell him/her about it. You must take the first step to communicate your queries and get them solved.
  • Be patient. When you submit a query or seek help regarding any topic or assignment, you have to give him/her the time for a reply. You may have to continue with your studies or assignment before you receive a reply. Take advantage of times when the instructor is available for immediate feedback and answers.
  • Try to grab any chance to interact with your peers. Discuss questions and follow their communications. If you know anyone pursuing the same course, try to sync your schedules so that you can study together and discuss your assignments. Students who are part of a learning community, perform better than those who feel isolated and are on their own.

Time Management

If you are working, engaged in various extracurricular activities, have a family, or any other obligations that keep you busy, managing your online study can be tough. Several resources and tips regarding time management are available online and it’s significant for you to zero- in on a method that works for you. Take each semester at a time and manage your time accordingly.

I was looking for a master’s to enhance my teaching career as well as gain an internationally recognised degree that’s affordable, flexible and manageable when I chanced upon Asian College of Teachers. I really enjoyed this program. This program is tailored in a way that suited me perfectly. I am a high school teacher and with this flexible program I was able to complete all the assignments at my own time and pace. The staff at ACT and EIU were especially helpful and they guided me through the program. I am indeed indebted to ACT, EIU and the staff for giving me this learning opportunity, assistance and support to earn myself a master’s degree while I was working!

I have completed my PG Diploma in TEFL/TESOL and continued my Master's with specialization in Educational Administration with ACT and EIU. My learning experiences with ACT have been phenomenal. I have been well guided by my instructors at all times and it has been a pleasure to be an alumni of this institute. After my PG Diploma I was appointed as an English teacher at a school I have been trying for many years and within 3 years of working I was promoted to the Head of the English Department as soon as I completed my Master's. The knowledge I have gained through these programs have been very helpful in my career and my creativity as a teacher and now a team leader. I am planning to continue my Doctorate at the same institute but still looking for guidance as to which field to take... But will start very soon.

It was a great experience taking up this course. Initially, I was skeptical about taking the course given my situation having a one year old kid to take care of along with my household chores and office work. When I started this course, I was not even sure if I would be able to make it. But then the course materials were very easy to follow and with the feedback on each assignment given by the course instructor I was able to complete the course with a first class grade. This course was structured very well and real time examples in each module helped me understand things better. For an aspiring teacher like me, this course was really useful. It helped me understand the future of education and teaching.
